Report: Spurs battling Spanish, German and Italian sides for midfielder

According to the latest reports from Turkey, Tottenham Hotspur now face competition from La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga for Fenerbahce midfielder Sebastian Szymanski.

Szymanski has arguably been the best player on show in the Turkish top flight this season, with the attacking midfielder managing 12 goals and 17 assists across all competitions so far.

Various Turkish outlets have reported over recent weeks that Spurs are plotting a move for the Poland international this summer. The latest such update came from Fanatik, who claimed a few days ago that the Lilywhites had identified the 24-year-old as a replacement for Giovani Lo Celso.

Spurs expected to face competition for Szymanski

However, it has now emerged that the race for Szymanski’s services is heating up, with several clubs across Europe expressing interest in his services.

According to Damga Gazetesi, alongside Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen has now also ‘stepped in’ to sign the star while Napoli and Sevilla also plotting a move for the player.

The report says that it would take an offer of around €30m (£25.8m) to convince Fenerbahce to cash in on their talisman.

Meanwhile, Fotomac also quote the same price and they suggest that Szymanski is now increasingly likely to leave the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium as several clubs are now circling over him.

The report adds that Tottenham and Sevilla have expressed ‘the most serious’ interest in the midfielder so far and are expected to make an offer for the Pole this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham will need to sign a backup to James Maddison but perhaps Postecoglou will want to go down the route of signing a versatile attacker, who can cover for the number ten role as well as the wide areas.

In addition, Lucas Bergvall can also perhaps be used in the Maddsion role if the Swede shows that he is ready to make the step up.
