Spurs set to move for Gray

David Ornstein announced via The Athletic on Saturday evening (29/6/24) that Brentford had ‘manoeuvred themselves into the strongest position’ despite the interest of clubs such as Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool. (Express)

Ben Jacobs later warned that there was ‘caution until the ink was dry’ from Brentford with Spurs being ‘one to watch’ with the deal not being completely done regardless of an organised medical and ‘agreed personal terms’.

A new report by The Athletic on Sunday morning (30/6/24) has revealed that the arranged £35 million move to Brentford has now been ‘officially rejected’ with the player even having ‘underwent’ a medical the previous night. Sky Sports revealed that the rejection was due to two clubs being unable to ‘reach agreement on the payment structure’.

Spurs remain ‘strongly interested’ and are now eyeing a sensational hijack move for Gray

Football Insider reported on Sunday (30/6/24) that ‘Tottenham are plotting a sensational move to hijack Brentford’s deal for Leeds United star Archie Gray’. Spurs are reportedly a club who have ‘longstanding interest’ in Gray who was a huge part of Leeds United’s promotion push last season at just 18.

The breakout star is reportedly now ‘expected to leave Elland Road this summer’ with the Yorkshire-based club needing to sell before Sunday’s PSR deadline, with Spurs now reported to be ‘plotting a last-ditch attempt’.

Spurs Web Opinion

A hijack move would now be a lot simpler than it was twelve hours ago with the Brentford’s bid being rejected, leaving Spurs potentially an open run to secure Gray’s services.

The fee for Gray shouldn’t take much negotiating either with his value now openly known to be around £35/£40 million.

This transfer saga appears to be moving very quickly now, likely due to the PSR deadline which I obviously the incentive for Leeds to sell their prized teenage star.

It could be a busy day or two at Hotspur Way should Spurs launch a bid of their own to try and make a very impressive first permanent summer signing.
