Alasdair Gold reveals what people close to Lucas Bergvall have told him about the Spurs starlet

Alasdair Gold has said that while there is plenty of excitement about Lucas Bergvall’s potential, he warned Spurs fans that the youngster is going to need time to develop into the finished product.

Tottenham secured Bergvall from Djurgardens on deadline day in January and loaned the midfielder back to the Swedish club until the end of the season.

The signing looks increasingly like a masterstroke with each passing week, with the 18-year-old continuing to dominate in the Swedish top flight.

While the Premier League is a massive step up from the Allsvenskan and the youngster would have to adapt to the pace and intensity of the English game, Spurs fans will be hoping that he can go on to fulfil his potential under the watchful eyes of Ange Postecoglou.

Lucas Bergvall needs time to settle at Spurs

Over the last few months, various reports have suggested that Tottenham are expected to give the teenager a prominent first-team role next season (Football Insider).

Gold has now suggested that it might take the midfielder around six months to make an impact at the North London club.

The journalist said on Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about Bergvall: “I’m intrigued to see what type of player we’ll get. I think people will have to be patient with him though. Even people around him have said ‘look you have to give him about six months’ they think to adapt, but, he’s going to be some player.”

Like Ashley Phillips, it is possible that we might not see Bergvall get any game time at all in his first season at Spurs. The club will be patient with the midfielder and give him the time he needs to settle into his new surroundings.

However, by the same token, if the 18-year-old looks the part as soon as he arrives and shows that he is ready to play, Postecoglou will not be shy of throwing him into the side.
