Alasdair Gold thinks Postecoglou has already spoken to 31-year-old about his future

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Ange Postecoglou faces a difficult decision on the future of Ben Davies, suggesting that the Australian might decide to keep the defender at the club as a squad player next season.

What’s next for Ben Davies at Tottenham?

Davies is currently the longest-serving player at Tottenham, having completed a decade at Spurs since arriving at the club from Swansea City back in 2014.

The 31-year-old showcased his versatility and reliability last season, stepping into the centre-back role and delivering solid displays when Micky van de Ven was out with a hamstring injury.

It was reported by The Athletic three weeks ago that Postecoglou might decide to offload Davies as the defender is not seen as a natural fit for the inverted full-back role.

Ben Davies may stay at Spurs as a squad player

Gold has now made the same point, stating that the Tottenham boss would have already spoken to the Wales international about his future.

However, the journalist points out that Daives’ versatility and experience could prove valuable for the Spurs head coach and remarks that the left-back’s homegrown status would also help the club make up the numbers in the Europa League squad.

Gold thus suggests that Postecoglou could decide to keep Davies at the club and just sign a right-back this summer to replace Emerson Royal, who is expected to depart.

Ange will know that the entire rebuild cannot be completed in just one window and will have to be done in stages.

That is why I expect Davies to remain at the club for one more season, particularly given that we need a large squad to be able to compete on all fronts.
