Declan Rice has given a ringing endorsement of Conor Gallagher, admitting that the rumoured Tottenham target has surprised everyone at the England camp with the way he has performed.

Spurs have been looking at Gallagher for a while

Gallagher has been mooted as a target for Spurs for the last 12 months, with some sources suggesting that Ange Postecoglou had identified the midfielder as a priority target as soon as he arrived at Hotspur Way last summer (Fabrizio Romano – GiveMeSport).

The Lilywhites might have felt that this summer is their opportunity to secure the England international’s services, given that he is down the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

However, over the last couple of weeks, a number of outlets have suggested that the 24-year-old does not want to leave his boyhood club this summer and Chelsea are now open to offering him a new contract (HITC).

Tottenham may have their work cut out to land Gallagher but Rice’s latest admission about the Blues star perhaps sheds a light on why Postecoglou is so keen on bringing the player to Spurs.

The Arsenal man said about his England midfield partner to talkSPORT: “Look, obviously you’ve seen Conor Gallagher’s season this year at Chelsea and if he does start I think you’re going to see exactly what he done at Chelsea this year.

“He surprised a lot of people. On the ball, off the ball, what he gives for the team, how unselfish he is. I know Gareth loves him. Equally as much he loves Trent as well and he loves all the other midfield players he can pick from.”

Gallagher very much seems to be a player’s player, with his fellow professionals rating him much higher than the fans do, which is perhaps because of his selfless style of play.

However, it looks like Tottenham might have to turn their attention to other alternatives, with the 24-year-old seemingly keen on remaining at Chelsea.
