‘Astonished’ – Micahel Owen predicts where Spurs will finish in the Premier League

Michael Owen has said that he would be astonished if Aston Villa do not secure a fourth-place finish this season, given the fixtures that Tottenham Hotspur have coming up.

When Tottenham thrashed Villa 4-0 at Villa Park last month, it seemed like Ange Postecoglou’s side had struck a defining blow in the race for Champions League qualification.

However, since then, the Lilywhites have struggled to string performances and results together and currently find themselves six points behind Villa.

Although Tottenham are still far from out of the race for fourth since they have two games in hand over the Midlands side, the North London club have an extremely difficult end to the season, having to face all three title contenders while also needing to travel to Stamford Bridge for a London derby.

Aston Villa are expected to pip Spurs to fourth

Given the advantage that Unai Emery’s men now have, Owen insisted that they will get into the Champions League at Spurs’ expense barring a major collapse over the next few weeks.

The former Liverpool striker told The Premier League’s official website: “Yes, they (Villa) are six points clear, two games in hand for Tottenham, but look at Tottenham’s run-in. It’s very, very difficult, so I would be astonished if Aston Villa don’t finish fourth in the league.

“I mean, imagine winning a European trophy and finishing fourth in the league. It’s such a big climb from where they have been before, and there’s no fluke about it, and you actually think, wow, if you keep improving, I am sure he will have a bit of money to spend in the summer, could they be challenging for the league title?

“I mean, you look at the league, they are not that many points behind the top three at the moment. Only a handful of points. So, with another summer, as I said, of building the squad and getting his ideas across, who knows what next season again?”

Given the poor form we have been in, it is difficult to see us not dropping points in some of the fixtures that we have coming up over the next few weeks. There is no doubt that Villa are in the driving seat in the race for fourth at the moment.
