Ben Davies is convinced young Tottenham player will just get ‘better and better’

Ben Davies has said that Brennan Johnson has improved considerably as a player as a result of playing for a top club like Tottenham and backed his compatriot to be a future star for the Welsh national side.

Johnson has had to deal with his fair share of critics at Spurs, which is inevitable considering the big price tag he moved for.

The 22-year-old has managed to cope with the pressure and has seemingly come out the other side, now showing Tottenham fans just what he can offer in the final third.

The pacy winger has already clocked up 10 goal contributions in the Premier League this season, which is no easy feat considering that he has not always been a regular in the starting eleven.

Unlike at Spurs, Johnson often plays as a number nine for Wales and the Dragons are reliant on the youngster to deliver as their aim to qualify for the European Championship.

Ahead of the nation’s upcoming Euro 2024 play-off against Finland, Davies has backed his teammate to continue getting better and better over the next few years.

When asked about Johnson’s improvement since arriving at N17, the defender told Yahoo Sport: “He is playing at a big club in big games. He is pulling out results, scoring goals and getting assists. He offers a lot of pace, very direct.

“He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He has taken it in his stride. We will see a better and better player coming. If he can bring that quality into a Welsh shirt for us we’ll be very happy.”

It will be huge for Johnson’s development if Wales can qualify for the Euros and he has the experience of leading the line for his nation in Germany next summer. The pressure that comes with such a responsibility will help the pacy winger mature as a player and a person.
