A winning start for Radu Dragusin’s Romania at Euro 2024

Romania took a huge step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the Euros by delivering a statement performance against the Ukranians at Allianz Arena.

Edward Iordanescu’s men brushed their opponents aside on Monday, with goals from Nicolae Stanciu, Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus ensuring that they emerged as 3-0 winners.

Even though the Ukrainians dominated possession, Romania looked quite impenetrable at the back, with Radu Dragusin and his fellow defenders ensuring that their opponents had very little joy in the final third.

The Tottenham man has received plenty of plaudits for his performance, with the likes of Brentford boss Thomas Frank and former Wales defender Ashley Williams singling out the 22-year-old for praise (Football.London).

It turns out that Maddison is also a part of the Dragusin fan club, with the Spurs midfielder taking to his Instagram stories to applaud his teammate’s display on Monday afternoon.

James Maddison praised Dragusin on social media

Maddison endured his own Euro 2024 heartbreak having been left out of the England squad for the tournament.

Despite missing out on the trip to Germany, Maddison is full of support of his Spurs team-mate and will be looking to catch the eye himself when he returns to his former club Leicester City for the opening round next season after Tottenham’s Premier League 2024/25 fixtures were released earlier this morning.

Romania are next in action on Saturday when they face group favourites Belgium, who are smarting after a 1-0 loss to Slovakia.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Dragusin is thought of quite highly by his Tottenham teammates and I am sure this performance would have caught Ange Postecoglou‘s eye.

I would expect the centre-back to have a much more prominent role at Spurs next season than he had for the last six months.

He did well during his last four appearances of last season when he was given the opportunity to play, having a consecutive run of matches can be such an important factor for a defender who is new to a club to forge partnerships and Dragusin did well when called upon aside from a slight blip at Fulham.
