Pundit reveals a potential blow in Tottenham’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher

Scott Minto believes that Chelsea do not have to sell Conor Gallagher as they have some breathing room with respect to PSR, adding that the Blues will want a sizeable fee for their academy graduate.

There have been a whole host of updates regarding Gallagher’s future and Tottenham’s pursuit of the midfielder over the last few months, with many of them contradicting one another.

Rather interestingly, over recent days, a few outlets have reported that the 24-year-old might actually decide to stay put at the West London club this summer even though he has just a year left on his deal.

This includes an update by Football Insider on Monday, which claimed that Chelsea fear the player could turn down a transfer and instead decide to leave on a free transfer next summer.

The report pointed out that this would be a ‘big blow’ for the West London club as it would worsen their PSR situation.

Chelsea may still keep Conor Gallagher this summer

However, Minto believes that Chelsea are not as desperate to sell the England international this summer as some reports have led us to believe.

The pundit told talkSPORT (as relayed by HITC): “So, they are under the £105 million? They are under the PSR rules. It might mean that they don’t have to sell. They don’t have to sell Conor Gallagher.

“I think Conor Gallagher has only got one year left. He is going to sit on that contract. They are going to want money. They are going to want good money for him – they need to change that rule.

“That’s exactly what the fans want. He joined the club at eight. His family are all Chelsea fans.”

Irrespective of how desperate Chelsea’s PSR situation is, they would not want to risk letting Gallagher run into the final year of his contract.

The midfielder has a lot of power in this situation and it is up to Postecoglou to convince him that he could thrive at Tottenham in his system.
