Spurs are seemingly set to lose out on Hiroki Ito, with journalist Christian Falk revealing that the Stuttgart centre-back is now on his way to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham were interested in Hiroki Ito

Ito has developed impressively since his move to Stuttgart a couple of years ago and it emerged recently that his performances at the MPH Arena last season had brought him to the attention of Tottenham.

The Sun were the first to report last week that the North London club, who are keen to add reinforcements at the back, were plotting a move for the 25-year-old.

The report explained that Ange Postecoglou had been aware of Ito since his time in the J League with Yokohama F Marinos, with the Spurs boss now wanting to bring the Japanese international to N17.

Earlier this week, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold also backed up Tottenham’s interest in the Japanese international, explaining that his ability to cover at centre-back and left-back appeals to Spurs.

The journalist also stated that the centre-back has a release clause of €30m (£25.3m) in his contract with Stuttgart, adding that he is also on the radars of Saudi Pro League sides.

However, if Falk’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are now set to face defeat in the race for Ito’s signature, with Bayern allegedly activating the defender’s release clause.

If Tottenham were serious about their interest in Ito, they would have likely made the move a little sooner, especially given his modest release clause.

I suspect the Japanese international ranked a fair way down the North London side’s centre-back wishlist.
