Report: Club identify Spurs youngster as potential replacement for 30-goal star

According to Dutch outlet Transferwatch.nl, AZ Alkmaar are now plotting a move for Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott ahead of the summer transfer window.

Parrott has had a superb season on loan at  Excelsior Rotterdam, managing 12 goal contributions in 22 Edrivisie matches so far, which is an impressive tally for a side languishing fourth from bottom in the table.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that the 22-year-old is on the radar of several sides across Europe.

Football Insider claimed on April 7 that several German top-flight sides want the Republic of Ireland international while GiveMeSport reported that Dutch and Belgian clubs are eyeing moves for the striker.

Alkmaar are interested in Tottenham’s Troy Parrott

Transferwatch.nl have now said that Alkmaar have been impressed by Parrott’s performances for Excelsior and want to bring him to the AFAS Stadion.

It is explained that Maarten Martens’ men have identified the Spurs star as a possible replacement for their star striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who is expected to depart the club this summer.

In fact, the publication adds that AZ have already ‘cast the first lines’ in their pursuit of the Tottenham man.

It is not surprising that Parrott is a wanted man on the back of his showing in the Netherlands this season but one would expect Ange Postecoglou to want to take a closer look at the striker in pre-season before deciding on his future.

The Australian did not get much of a chance to do that last summer as the Irishman was out injured. However, at 22 years of age, Parrott would perhaps be keen on leaving Spurs permanently in order to have some continuity in his career.
