Tottenham are keen on Jonathan David this summer

If reports over the last few days are to be believed, Tottenham have already reached out to David, who is currently at the Copa America, over a potential summer switch to North London (Football Insider).

However, the Lilywhites have a huge battle on their hands to land the Canadian international, who is also thought to be of interest to Chelsea, Man Utd and West Ham (Guardian).

Football.London have now revealed that this is not the first time that Spurs have explored a move for David.

Jonathan David has been a long-term target for Spurs

They claim that Conte had previously earmarked the 24-year-old as a replacement for Kane if the England captain left the club while the club’s former managing director, Fabio Paratici, was also a fan of the Lille star.

The report states that the Lilywhites even tested the waters over David’s availability last summer but were put off by the £51m asking price.

However, with the former Gent man just having a year left on his contract at the moment, it is alleged that he can be signed for a fee of around £17m to £21m.

There was even some speculation linking David with a move to Tottenham prior to his switch to Lille, with the Premier League side having observed the player’s progress closely since his time in Belgian football.

Spurs might feel that this summer is the ideal time for them to get their hands on the player but Postecoglou’s men have their work cut out as the competition for the striker’s signature seems to growing each day.
