According to Sabah, Fenerbahce are prepared to make a move for Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi if a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg proves out of their reach this summer.

Jose Mourinho wants to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

A number of Turkish outlets have reported over the last couple of weeks that Fenerbahce have identified Hojbjerg as their top target at the behest of Jose Mourinho.

This includes an update last week from YMGazetesi, which claimed that the former Spurs boss is keen on reuniting with the Dane and had told the Turkish club’s hierarchy that he wants to make the 28-year-old his first signing at the club.

Fenerbahce may move for Wilfried Ndidi instead

However, Sabah have said that Fenerbahce could fall short in the race for the Hojbjerg as the midfielder is also wanted by Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

As a result, Mourinho’s men are thought to be looking for alternatives and one of the players they have identified is Ndidi, who is available on a free transfer after his contract at Leicester City ran out.

The report claims that the Nigerian international is also attracting interest from Barcelona, who are on the lookout for a new number six.

Interestingly, it was reported by HITC back in April that Ndidi was also on Ange Postecoglou‘s wishlist, with Spurs said to be eyeing him as a potential replacement for Hojbjerg.

Hojbjerg looks likely to either end up at Spain with Atletico or Italy with one of Napoli or Juventus but his future might not be sorted out until after the Euros.

Tottenham might have explored a move for Ndidi but it does not appear as if the Nigerian is one of the North London side’s top targets.

Hojbjerg has dropped down in the midfield pecking order following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as the below stats show, part of which can be put down to the emergence of Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur‘s return from his knee injury.

Despite his good relationship with Mourinho, it would be surprising if the Dane decides to move to Turkey when he is likely to have the opportunity to play in a better league.
