Report: Spanish club’s move for Spurs star is ‘gaining momentum’ as contacts continue

Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Giovani Lo Celso is in touch with the Real Betis hierarchy and that the Spanish club are now prioritising re-signing the Tottenham man.

With Lo Celso set to enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham, it looks inevitable that the midfielder’s five-year stay at the club will come to an end this summer.

Just a couple of days ago, the print edition of AS (via Sport Witness) claimed that the Argentine would be the dream signing for Real Betis but suggested that they might have to qualify for Europe to be able to afford a deal.

Lo Celso is in touch with Real Betis

Estadio Deportivo have now suggested that Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo and his team have already started working behind the scenes on a deal for Lo Celso.

The report says that the La Liga club are ‘longing’ to have their former player back and their expectation is that Spurs will put him up for sale.

It is alleged that the Spanish side hope to raise €15m (£13m) from the sale of Nabil Fekir, who is wanted by Al-Ittihad, and use those funds to pursue a deal for Lo Celso.

The publication adds that the Tottenham man ‘continues to maintain contacts’ with the Betis directors and is willing to return to his old club, with the transfer now said to be ‘gaining momentum’.

With Lo Celso having just a year left on his deal, he will have plenty of power to choose his next destination as he can threaten to run his deal down and leave on a free 12 months later.

So if he is quite keen on returning to Betis, the midfielder will probably get his move even if other clubs are willing to pay a little more for him.
