Spurs insider thinks Postecoglou should send player on loan to the Championship

John Wenham, who frequently breaks news about Tottenham’s youth sides on his Lilywhite Rose social media platforms, has called on the North London club to loan Alejo Veliz to a Championship side in the summer.

Veliz’s loan move to Sevilla has not panned out the way the striker would have wanted, with the youngster having made just three appearances as a substitute for the La Liga side since his switch.

It was claimed by ElDesmarque (via Sport Witness) last week that the reason the 20-year-old is being overlooked is due to a power struggle inside Sevilla.

It was asserted that manager Quique Sanchez Flores wanted the club to sign a more experienced option while sporting director Victor Orta was keen on the Tottenham man.

Whatever the reason behind his struggles for game time, Spurs will consider his five-month spell at Andalusia to be wasted and according to some reports over recent weeks, the Lilywhites have already started working on potential loan moves for the player in the summer (Fabrizio Romano).

Should Alejo Veliz go on loan to the Championship?

Wenham believes that the most sensible thing for Tottenham to do is to send the striker to a club in English football’s second tier.

He told Tottenham News: “Any loan for Veliz after the disaster of this loan at Sevilla needs to be based in England.

“If it was between a Premier League club and a Championship club where he was going to be playing regularly, I would send him to the Championship club. He needs guaranteed game time next season, that is the most important thing.”

One cannot just assume that Veliz is guaranteed to start games at any Championship side. Tottenham will need to hold discussions with various clubs and seek guarantees regarding game time for the 20-year-old before greenlighting any loan move.
