Journalist reveals Tottenham’s interesting three-month plan for Archie Gray this season

According to journalist Dean Jones, Tottenham will operate more in hope than expectation when it comes to Archie Gray this season following his big-money move from Leeds United.

Archie Gray is already impressing at Tottenham

Archie Gray has already made a good impression on those at Tottenham, both with his skill on the pitch and his attitude in training (Football London).

Signing from Leeds United for around £30m, Gray has apparently been spotted in training trying to collect the cones at the end of a session – not something that is often expected from a club’s new big-money signing.

Postecoglou has also been public with his praise of both Gray and Bergvall in pre-season, stating: “They’ve (Bergvall and Gray) come in really with the right attitude, very humble, but really ambitious and want to make an impact. They’re not here to ease their way in, they want to play and it’s exactly what you want from young guys coming through and they’ve added a good energy to the group,” (Football London).

Gray, in particular, is generating a real ‘buzz’ around Hotspur Way, and some within the game are even tipping him to become the next Steven Gerrard or Declan Rice with the right guidance (Football London).

No pressure then, Archie…

Tottenham don’t want to put pressure on Gray

It appears that Tottenham do not want to put any unnecessary or overwhelming pressure on such a young player this season, and will therefore give Gray a few months to settle into the squad.

Jones said on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast: “Archie Gray caught me by surprise because I didn’t think Spurs would be the ones to do that deal.

“It’s more hope than expectation about what he’ll do next season. In terms of Gray, I was told he will get a few months where there is absolutely no pressure on him in the first two or three months of the season.

“They just want him to be comfortable and understand what his role will be and what the team philosophy is.”
