Ange Postecoglou has not been afraid to promote youth into his side

There is plenty of excitement at Hotspur Way regarding some of the young talent coming through the ranks at the moment.

The likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore have all been mightily impressive for the academy set-up and Spurs fans will be hoping to see them get some minutes in the Europa League next season.

Gold has now put forward another name, George Abbott, who could potentially follow in their footsteps and have an opportunity to be on the periphery of the Tottenham first-team squad.

Abbott was given his first taste of senior football when interim head coach Ryan Mason brought him on for his Premier League debut late in the 4–1 win at Leeds United in May 2023.

The journalist said that Abbott, who made 18 appearances for the Under-21s last season, has impressed the coaches at Hotspur Way with the way he has developed over the past twelve months.

George Abbott could have a chance of more first-team opportunities

Gold suggested that the defensive midfielder, who can also operate at centre-back or as a full-back, could have a breakthrough 2024-25 season.

He said on The Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I have a funny feeling about George Abbott this season. I think people need to keep an eye on him. I think he could be one pushed more towards the first-team this season if he’s not on loan.

“They were very pleased with his last year of development. It was reflected in the fact he became captain of the U21s for the second half of the season.”
