Cristian Romero is on Real Madrid’s radar

Of all the players currently in the Tottenham squad, there is an argument to be made that Romero may be the most valuable and most important of them all.

The Argentine brings quality to the Spurs backline, is the club’s vice-captain, and is considered one of the very best centre-halves in world football.

So, when a recent report from ESPN Argentina (relayed by Mundo Albiceleste) suggested Real Madrid were sniffing around the defender, Spurs fans were naturally concerned.

Tottenham are thought to be distancing themselves from this speculation (Football.London), while Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that the club has ‘no intention’ of selling Romero (PlayBack).

Spurs cannot let Romero go

Now, Alan Hutton has discussed the idea, and suggested it would be a ‘nightmare’ if Spurs were to let Romero go.

He told Best Online Poker Sites: “Losing Cristian Romero would be an absolute nightmare of a situation for Spurs. When he plays with Micky van de Ven, Romero seems a better player, and it works both ways. Those two have got such a great understanding between them.

“Romero can be a bit rash at times, and I did think he’d got that out of his game, but it does come out every so often. That said, I think when those two are fully fit they’re one of the best centre-back pairings in the Premier League, they won’t want to lose him.

“They’ll be absolutely desperate to keep him, he’s a World Cup winner and is still of an age which will see him get better.”

I would be livid if we sold Romero, especially right now. We’ve got a great project coming together and he is right at the heart of it all.

His partnership with Micky is crucial to our backline, and they are both only going to get better and better together.
