Alasdair Gold makes prediction about the futures of Oliver Skipp and Hojbjerg

Alasdair Gold has opined that Oliver Skipp is more likely to have a future under Ange Postecoglou than Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the journalist suggesting that the latter is destined to leave.

Skipp has only made one Premier League start so far this season, with the midfielder coming off the bench as a second-half substitute on 11 occasions (Transfermarkt).

The Tottenham academy graduate has made a significant impact off the bench over recent weeks, most notable in the second half against Manchester City, putting in a tidy performance and being involved in the build-up to Dejan Kulusevski’s late equaliser.

Skipp might have an important role to play next month, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr set to travel to the African Cup of Nations while Rodrigo Bentancur is not expected to return to action until February.

Meanwhile, Hojbjerg continues to be heavily linked with a move away from Spurs, with some Italian outlets revealing over the last few days that the Dane is keen to swap the North London club for Juventus in next month’s transfer window (La Stampa).

Skipp more valuable than Hojbjerg at Tottenham

Gold is convinced that the writing is on the wall for the former Southampton man but he believes that Skipp could still have a future at N17, even if it means he has to prove himself out on loan next season.

The journalist said on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “I’d like to see Postecoglou give him [Skipp] a shot in his natural position. I think he deserves it and let’s be honest, he’s more likely to have a long-term future than Hojbjerg.

“I still think Skippy might be off next summer, potentially on a loan somewhere, because of the lack of game time. But Hojbjerg seems destined to leave. I just wonder if it benefits you more to give Skipp a little chance to have a run in there.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I agree with Gold that Postecoglou would not be in a hurry to get rid of Skipp. The 23-year-old is quite under-rated by sections of the Tottenham fan base, who consider him to be nothing more than a grafter.

The midfielder is a good reader of the game and is technically quite strong. Much like Sarr, he needs a run of games to build up his confidence and showcase his qualities.
