There had been a lot of speculation over recent weeks about whether Spurs would take up the option to sign Werner permanently from RB Leipzig or whether they would instead turn their attention to other alternatives.

The North London club pulled off a surprise by instead striking a deal with the Bundesliga club to extend the German international’s loan spell at the club by a further 12 months.

According to reports, the deal would see the Lilywhites cover the forward’s wages over the course of the next season, with the Premier League side having the option to sign him permanently for £8.5m in 2025 (BBC Sport).

Tottenham are happy to have Timo Werner back

Some Spurs fans on social media are not overly impressed with the move but Gold has now asserted that the deal is viewed positively at Hotspur Way, with the journalist adding that the club intend to make more additions to their forward line this summer.

He said on his YouTube channel about the Werner deal: “It’s one of those where this deal doesn’t really come out of the transfer budget, there’s no transfer fee for him, and there will be more attacking signings on top of this.”

“They certainly want a striker, they’ll look for a winger as well. And I think that’s key, and I think it’s also key that Postecoglou wanted him. I’ve spoken to a few people around the club and around the squad as well, and quite a few people were hoping that he would stay.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I see very few downsides to this deal as Werner will be a very useful squad option for us next season. I find it quite funny that some fans talk a lot about needing to back Ange but the second the Australian makes a decision that they do not agree with, they throw their toys out of the pram.
