Alasdair Gold thinks Spurs star may still leave despite pre-season performances

Alasdair Gold still expects Tottenham to offload Ivan Perisic this summer despite the Croat’s impressive displays in the two pre-season friendlies so far this summer.

Perisic joined Tottenham on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired at Inter Milan, with the experienced wing-back signing a two-year deal with the North London club.

It has been suggested by several sources that the 34-year-old could be on his way out this summer, with The Daily Mail even claiming just a couple of days ago that the player has been informed by Spurs that he can leave if a suitable offer comes in for him.

Perisic was undoubtedly one of Tottenham’s most impressive performers in the two friendlies against West Ham United and Lion City Sailors, with the former Inter star impressing on the left of a front three.

Ivan Perisic is still expected to find a Spurs exit

While Gold praised the experienced star for his displays in the two matches, the journalist admitted that he does not expect the player to be at the club next season.

Gold said on his YouTube channel: “Another player who I thought had a really good tour and maybe was one that some of us didn’t expect us to be on the tour was Ivan Perisic.

“He played very well in some of the games. His delivery is unquestionable. It’s a terrific delivery he puts into the box. The fact is, as a winger, without the defensive responsibilities, it played to his strengths as an older player and not having to get back.

“He was just able to concentrate on pressing. He was involved in pretty much every goal that was on the pitch.

“I still get the feeling he might depart. Maybe because of his wages and because of his desire to probably play Champions League. There was even talk about him going home to Split in Croatia.

“He gave Postecoglou some things to think about. He was really good. He looked really sharp the whole time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Postecoglou would likely not mind hanging on to Perisic as a squad player, I suspect the Croat will be keen on leaving the club this summer as he would want regular game time under his belt, particularly given that he might only have a couple of years left at the highest level.
