Ange Postecoglou shares Spurs update on James Maddison injury status

In his post-match interview, Ange Postecoglou touched on the condition of James Maddison, after the Spurs star was forced off the field before half-time.

A truly incredible night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Chelsea take all three points after a 4-1 win, but by no means does that tell the full story.

Spurs took the lead within the first five minutes thanks to a Dejan Kulusevski goal. The home side could have doubled their lead not long after, when Brennan Johnson played Heung-min Son in for a neat finish, but that goal was ruled out for offside.

Chaos ensued from there on out. Red cards for Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie made things extremely difficult for Spurs, and ultimately handed Chelsea the advantage they needed.

We saw five goals disallowed, a Nicolas Jackson hattrick, and a rallying display from the Tottenham players who remained on the pitch.

While Chelsea got the win and brought Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten run to an end, there’s no denying that Spurs fans can come away from this game with plenty to be proud of.

Is James Maddison injured?

Amid all that madness, it’s easy to forget that James Maddison vacated the pitch early after seemingly picking up a knock. Speaking to the BBC, Ange Postecoglou gave a brief update on his star player’s injury status.

He said: “He got a knock on the ankle, we were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point.”

When Maddison was brought off, he was on his feet and seemed a bit surprised to be coming off. That suggests he might not be in too much trouble and could be available for the next game. Lord knows we’ll need him, given the players that are going to be missing now.
