Arnaut Danjuma makes transfer claim about Spurs after sealing Everton switch

Arnaut Danjuma has claimed that the reason he snubbed Everton to join Tottenham back in January was due to the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation at Goodison Park at the time.

Danjuma joined Spurs in controversial circumstances back in January, with the Lilywhites reportedly stealing him from under Everton’s nose after he had already completed his medical at the Merseyside club (The Athletic).

The winger joined Tottenham on a six-month loan deal, with the North London club having had the option to make his move permanent for a £27m fee (Evening Standard).

However, the forward’s time at Spurs did not exactly go to plan as he made just one Premier League start for the club, who unsurprisingly decided against taking up the option to sign him following the conclusion of the campaign (Transfermarkt).

Danjuma opens up on snubbing Everton for Spurs

Everton have now got their man, six months on from their initial failed move, and the Netherlands international admitted that he is over the moon to be joining the Toffees.

Danjuma said in his first interview on Everton’s official channel: “It’s amazing to join Everton and I’m really happy to be here. It’s been a long time coming to join such a massive club as Everton and it makes me proud.

“I had interest from other clubs but there was a pull towards Everton because of the fans, the manager and the history of the club and it’s second time lucky for me.

“I know I did not move to the club in January, that was because there was some uncertainty over the manager situation at that time, but I think it makes it even more beautiful for me to join now. I am very grateful to be at the club and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans as well.”

The 25-year-old insisted that he never doubted his qualities despite his struggles at Spurs and claimed that he grew from the experience he had during his time at N17.

He said about his time at Tottenham: “I’ve never doubted my abilities and I don’t think I’ve ever played any fool because of my abilities. For me, it’s part of football at times.

“At times it doesn’t go the way you want it to be but even then I think I have learnt a lot from it and grown because of it. There’s no vein in my body that doubts my quality and I’m very determined to show that for Evertonians now.”

Danjuma had good reason to feel hard done by at his lack of opportunities at Spurs as he impressed whenever he came onto the field. The 25-year-old could end up being a key player for the Merseysiders next season.
