Ange Postecoglou has insisted he is not frustrated that Tottenham are yet to sign a centre-back this transfer window.
It is fair to say that many Spurs fans are at a loss as to why the club have not been able to strengthen a priority position, particularly given that the new campaign is now less than three weeks away.
Postecoglou himself admitted last week that he had identified central defence as a key area to strengthen as soon as he arrived at the club and added that the club are looking to reinforce the area ‘as quickly as possible’ (Football.London).
90 min suggested a couple of days after that statement that the Spurs head coach will get his wish soon as Tottenham do not expect the centre-back saga to go on for ‘much longer’.
The publication stated that the North London club’s negotiations for Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven are ‘nearing conclusion’.
Postecoglou is relaxed on Spurs centre-back search
However, there have seemingly been no concrete developments on the centre-back front over the past few days.
When asked if he is frustrated at the lack of progress, Postecoglou has now told Football.London: “We’re looking to bring in at least one. No frustration – it’s just the football world.
“I’ve been around long enough to know how it works. I wish it could be like my wife and Amazon where we get a delivery every day, but no frustration.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is quite possible that Tottenham’s pursuit of a centre-back (and reinforcements in other areas) is being pushed back due to the uncertainty over Kane’s future.
The club would be conscious of the fact that their budget would increase significantly if Kane departs, which will potentially translate to different targets.
