Tottenham are linked with Ivan Toney

Tottenham continue to be mooted as a potential destination for Toney this summer, with the striker having just a year left to run on his contract at Brentford.

Over the last few days, some reports have suggested that the Lilywhites will only make a move for the England international if the Bees lower their asking price, with Ange Postecoglou’s men not thought to be keen on paying £50m-£60m on Toney (Football Insider).

However, it was reported by GiveMeSport on Tuesday that Spurs had not abandoned their pursuit of the striker and are continuing to hold a ‘genuine interest’ in the 28-year-old.

It was explained that the North London club could enter into negotiations with Brentford for the player after the Euros are over.

Brentford have already signed Ivan Toney’s replacement

Frank has now admitted that the West London side are prepared for Toney’s loss, claiming that Igor Thiago, who arrived from Club Brugge during the last transfer window, will take the place of the Tottenham target if he departs.

When asked about potentially losing the England star, the Brentford boss told BBC’s Football Daily Podcast (as relayed by The Standard): “We are on track with a lot of things in terms of the transfers.

“Of course, we plan and then other things can happen. Maybe we are selling a player but we are prepared for that.

“It’s no secret that there are lots of rumours about Ivan. If he is leaving us — and I’d still like to keep him, he’s a top player — this time we are prepared and brought in Igor Thiago.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Brentford have shown in the past that they can be a difficult club to negotiate with and they might not drop their asking price for Toney anytime soon.

I would not be surprised if Tottenham decide to prioritise other alternatives over the England star, particularly given that Ange has made it clear that he wants new signings to arrive before the start of pre-season.
