Chris Sutton makes claim that Spurs fans will love and Chelsea fans will hate

Chris Sutton believes that Tottenham Hotspur came out of the London Derby with a lot more credit than Chelsea despite the Blues running out comfortable winners on the night.

Spurs went into the game as overwhelming favourites, having been unbeaten in the Premier League and boasting of a perfect home record.

The gulf between the two sides was clear for all to see in the first half but the game changed when Cristian Romero made a poor tackle inside the box, which led to his sending-off.

To compound matters, Spurs were reduced to nine men when Destiny Udogie got his second yellow card 15 minutes into the second period but what followed from Ange Postecoglou’s side was quite impressive.

Do Spurs deserve more credit than Chelsea?

Far from shutting shop and defending with all nine men behind the ball, the home side continued to play with a high defensive line and create chances, and arguably even looked more threatening than Chelsea.

With Tottenham pushing bodies forward, Nicolas Jackson capitalised with a late hattrick to inflict a heavy defeat on the Lilywhites, but Sutton believes the Postecoglou’s men had more positives to take away from the encounter than their opponents.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was astounding to see how brave we were with nine men and that shows the kind of mentality that Ange has instilled into the players.

Wherever we finish this season, there is no doubt that things are going to be incredibly fun, which is what we as Spurs fans wanted after the drudgery of Conte and Mourinho.
