Co-owner wants Gareth Bale to play for Wrexham

Bale is undoubtedly one of Spurs’ biggest legends of the Premier League era, with the pacy attacker arriving as a teenager from Southampton back in 2007 before evolving into one of the world’s best players during his time at White Hart Lane.

The Welshman then became one of the most decorated British players in history at Real Madrid, winning a bucket load of trophies at the Spanish capital, including five Champions League titles.

The winger completed a fairytale return to the North London club on loan during the 2020-21 season but the move perhaps did not work out the way all parties would have wanted, mainly because of his issues with then-manager Jose Mourinho.

The 34-year-old, who decided to hang up his boots after the 2022 World Cup, had a jovial exchange with McElhenney on social media last year about potentially coming out of retirement.

The Wrexham co-owner has now admitted that the offer to the former Tottenham man still stands and that he would love to add the superstar to the League One side’s squad.

A Welsh return for Gareth Bale?

McElhenney said (via The Athletic): “Gareth Bale is still technically available! I made the plea last year and I’m just going to tell Gareth that the offer is still on the table.

“We’ll let him play golf whenever he wants. Just as long he comes training and we’ll figure out how to get him in the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given all the highs that Bale has had in the game, I cannot see him being too motivated to put his body through the rigours of League One football, particularly given that the Welshman seems to be enjoying his retirement.

Bale seems to have adjusted to life away from football very well and is likely enjoying the fact that he is able to play as much golf as he wants, along with spending time with his family.
