Club president plays down speculation over move for Tottenham player

Real Betis president Angel Haro has dismissed the speculation linking Giovani Lo Celso with a return to the club as being unfounded rumours.

Despite being linked with an exit from Spurs until transfer deadline day, Lo Celso remained at the North London club, with reports indicating that Ange Postecoglou reassured the player’s camp that he would have a role at the club this season (Express).

The midfielder’s only start so far this season came in the second round of the Carabao Cup against Fulham, with the 27-year-old missing the last few matches due to a hamstring injury.

A few days ago, we relayed a report from Fichajes which claimed that the Argentine had already made up his mind to leave Tottenham when the transfer window reopens in January.

The outlet stated that the La Liga club were set to reignite their interest in Lo Celso, having failed with a move for him in the summer and it was asserted that even though the midfielder had several options, a return to the Benito Villamarin Stadium was his top preference.

However, Haro has now played down the speculation, insisting that he is not aware of any fresh moves for the Spurs man.

When asked about the reports linking Lo Celso with a return to the club, the Betis president told Estadio Deportivo: “I’m not aware that there have been additional movements to what there were at the time (during the summer), I think they are more rumours than founded news.”

It is too early to speculate on what might or might not happen in January. Three and a half months is a long time in football and a lot can change before then. However, as things stand, Lo Celso’s chances of getting any minutes at Spurs seem quite bleak.
