Conte comments on whether Cristian Romero has one eye on World Cup

Antonio Conte has assured Tottenham fans that Cristian Romero is fully committed to Tottenham Hotspur, and would play on one leg if it were possible. 

Tottenham welcome Liverpool to North London this weekend in the Premier League as they look to open up a sizeable gap on Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Spurs currently sit third behind Arsenal and Man City with 26 points, while Liverpool are down in ninth on 16 points, although the Reds do have a game in hand on the Lilywhites.

Tottenham will be looking to keep pace with their title and top-four rivals heading into the World Cup break in nine days, while Liverpool will at least want to haul themselves back into the hunt for Champions League football.

Conte revealed that Romero is unavailable for the game, but only because it is physically impossible for him to play. This comes after some have suggested he might have one eye on the World Cup (Michael Bridge).

Conte said (Football London): “About Romero, I can tell you that for him if he has the possibility to play with one leg he will play with the one leg.

“I would tell the fans that we have players really committed to the club. Maybe Romero he had an injury because we wanted to take a risk and he had this injury, but for sure many teams are having big injuries.

“We are seeing this situation is impossible for the future. I’m hearing about the welfare of the players but it’s only a polite way of showing they care but they’re not caring if the schedule is this. If the most important thing is the show must go.”

It’s hard to know who has one eye on the World Cup and who doesn’t, but I don’t blame the players at all. Some only get one or two World Cups and it’s down to FIFA holding the tournament in the middle of the season!
