Experienced Spurs player wants to ‘fight for his place’ under Postecoglou – Journalist reports

Journalist Sami Mokbel has revealed that Eric Dier wants to remain at Tottenham Hotspur and fight for his place under Ange Postecoglou.

With Tottenham conceding 63 goals across the 2022-23 Premier League season, their backline came under plenty of criticism, with Dier taking plenty of heat for some of his displays.

The centre-back has just one year left on his contract at the North London club and it was reported by 90 min a couple of weeks ago that the Lilywhites are open to listening to offers for him this summer.

However, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare stated last week that the 29-year-old is more likely to leave next summer when his contract runs out than he is during the current transfer window.

Dier has been a fixture in the starting eleven under the last few managers and it remains to be seen whether Postecoglou will take to the England international.

Dier wants to prove himself to yet another Spurs boss

According to Mokbel, the centre-back is keen on working with the Australian and proving himself to the new Spurs boss.

The journalist said on Last Word on Spurs: “Centre-back is an area they definitely want to strengthen, 100 per cent.

“On that point actually, I would like to add there’s been a lot of talk this summer about Eric Dier possibly leaving the club.

“My understanding of that situation is that Eric Dier actually wants to stay and he wants to fight for his place.

“He’s actually looking forward to working with Ange Postecoglou next season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite all the criticism that Dier gets from the Spurs fan base, there is a reason why every single Spurs manager has valued him and none have sought to get rid of him.

I would not be surprised if Postecoglou decides to keep the 29-year-old as a squad player.
