Fabrizio Romano reveals what he has heard about Hojbjerg transfer at Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has said that despite reports to the contrary from Italian outlets over the last couple of weeks, Juventus are not prioritising a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January.

Last week, it was suggested by Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) that Spurs were willing to loan Hojbjerg to Juventus as long as the deal includes an obligation to buy for €30m (£26m) next summer.

The outlet explained that the Bianconeri had identified the Spurs star as their number one midfield target but they preferred an option to buy rather than an obligation.

The same information was also backed up a couple of days ago by TuttoMercatoWeb, who said that although Tottenham’s £26m asking price was considered high by Juve, Massimiliano Allegri’s men are prioritising getting a deal for the 28-year-old over the line.

Juve looking at other options beyond Hojbjerg

However, Romano has now insisted that even though Juve admire Hojbjerg, a few other midfielders rank above the Spurs star on the Serie A giants’ wishlist for January.

He also alleged that Napoli are still not out of the running for the former Southampton man’s signature.

Romano told Kick (30/12/23): “Look, for Hojbjerg, we have to keep an eye on Italian clubs because Italian clubs are keeping a close eye on Hojbjerg. I’m hearing that Juventus, despite a lot of links, still see other players in that position as a priority more than Pierre Hojbjerg.

“Hojbjerg changed agents recently, in September, because he wants to leave, he wants to go to another club. But, for Tottenham, it has to be a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy. It has to be a guaranteed transfer or nothing.

“Juventus, yes they like the player, but it’s not a priority from what I’m hearing, at least now. Napoli appreciate Pierre Hojbjerg.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect the interest in Hojbjerg’s services to continue building over the next couple of weeks. However, the issue for Spurs is that not a lot of Serie A clubs (or any clubs outside the Premier League for that matter) have much money to spend in January.

So, Tottenham might be forced to consider some creative solutions like using the Dane in a swap deal or a part-exchange deal.
