Guglielmo Vicario responds to Callum Wilson’s comments after fall out

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has taken to social media to hit back at Callum Wilson, after the Newcastle striker accused him of being disrespectful during yesterday’s clash between the two sides.

After last season’s embarrassing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle, it’s safe to say Tottenham had a lot to prove when they hosted the Magpies yesterday afternoon.

A lot has changed since that loss back in April, with Spurs rejuvenated under new manager Ange Postecoglou. One of the big changes is in the goalkeeping department, with Hugo Lloris out, and Guglielmo Vicario proving himself the new number one in North London.

The Lilywhites managed to get their revenge yesterday with a convincing 4-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, to end a run of five games without a win.

Vicario has his say on Callum Wilson incident

During the game, Vicario riled up Newcastle striker Callum Wilson by pulling a face at the England international after saving one of his headers, and tempers flared between the pair after the game again, too.

Speaking to Sky Sports in his post-match interview, Wilson said: “The goalkeeper, for the header, he starts pulling faces and messing around. It’s just a lack of respect, I thought.”

Vicario has given his own response, taking to Instagram to share an image from the altercation, and the words: “Respect is given… to everyone that respects me!”

Coincidentally, the game saw Richarlison score two goals, which offered a perfect response to Wilson’s very public criticism of the Spurs striker last season (Footballer’s Football Podcast).

Spurs Web Opinion

Callum Wilson cannot talk about lacking respect after how he treated Richarlison. What Vicario did was so minor, and Wilson only reacted because his side were losing in the manner they were.

I am curious what Wilson has done to Vicario to show a lack of respect, though – perhaps there were some comments made during the game that we didn’t see.
