‘He should’ – Pundit makes big claim about Postecoglou and Manager of the Season award

Jamie O’Hara has said that Ange Postecoglou should be awarded the Premier League Manager of the Year award if he guides Tottenham Hotspur to a top-three finish.

Last summer, Hardly anyone gave Spurs a chance of being in contention for Champions League qualification, with some even suggesting that the Lilywhites would finish in the bottom half after losing their record goalscorer Harry Kane (Paul Merson – Sky Sports).

However, just six months on, some Tottenham fans are potentially even dreaming of a title tilt. Such has been Postecoglou’s impact.

The Australian has dealt impressively with every single challenge that has been thrown his way this season, including the unprecedented injury pile-up, but has refused to wear away from his preferred high-octane approach, with Spurs arguably being the most entertaining side across the division so far.

O’Hara believes if the 58-year-old steers Spurs to a top-three finish, it would be an even more impressive achievement than Pep Guardiola guiding Man City to another league title.

Who has been the best PL manager this season so far?

The former Tottenham midfielder told Grosvenor Sport’s Counter Attack: “How good is Ange Postecoglou, by the way? I think he’s got a great chance of winning Manager of the Year.

“If Manchester City win the league again, does Pep Guardiola really deserve it with all the players that he’s got? Why do you have to win the Premier League to get the award, when you’ve got the biggest budget and the best players? I think if Tottenham finish third in the league and continue playing the way they’re playing, he should win it.

“Tottenham have been a joy to watch this season – they’re on TV every week because people want to watch them, even if they’re not Spurs fans! I think Postecoglou deserves to be in with a shout of winning Manager of the Year, because Tottenham fell off the side of a cliff last season, they were absolutely terrible. It was honestly so bad to watch – the football was diabolical.

“This season, I can’t wait to watch Tottenham every time they’re on, and I think everyone feels like that a little bit. It’s early in the season, but Ange deserves the award – he’s done an unbelievable job.”

If Guardiola guides City to a record fourth-straight Premier League title, there is no doubt that he will win the award yet again. However, the impact of Postecoglou at Spurs cannot be overstated as the Australian has completely transformed the whole mood around the club.
