‘Head has gone’ – Brennan Johnson recalls how one Spurs star made him very angry

Remember in the 2022/23 campaign when Richarlison started doing kick-ups against Nottingham Forest and got clattered by Brennan Johnson as a result? Brennan Johnson remembers it well, but he insists he is good friends with the Spurs striker now.

Back in August 2022, Richarlison was just beginning his Tottenham career, and had just delivered a wonderful cross to set up Harry Kane for a second Spurs goal against Forest, thus killing the game.

Moments later, the Brazilian decided to do a few kick-ups in the middle of the pitch. Was he wasting time? Showing off? A bit of both? Probably, but it didn’t go down well with football fans at the time.

Brennan Johnson wasn’t happy either, and decided to show Richarlison just how angry he was by smashing into the Spurs man.

Johnson loves playing with Richarlison now

Johnson is a Spurs player now, of course, and he was speaking to the social media team recently about that incident.

“I remember this day very well. I remember we were losing and Richy came on, playing with him now I love playing with him and he’s a great player, but my head was already gone at the result, I think it was at the end of the game,” Johnson recalled.

“I remember seeing him do kick ups, I was playing up front at that time, so I shouldn’t have been anywhere near coming back that far but as soon as I saw him doing the kick ups I thought my head has gone here, I’m going to have to run over and tackle and him,” he added.

The tackle didn’t quite work out, though. “He has then passed the ball, it’s hit me, and as soon as it was a 50/50 I thought I can’t lose this, Johnson said. “But me and him are teammates now and obviously friends, so that’s behind us!”

Spurs Web Opinion

I always find it funny that it was Brennan Johnson who wiped Richarlison out for this, and I wonder if they ever talk about it at training or anything.

It’s interesting to hear Johnson, who seems like such a calm player, discuss how angry he was at the time.
