‘I respect their decision’ – Spurs star opens up on being sold by Premier League rivals

Pedro Porro may be a fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur now, but his career could have been very different had things worked out during his time at Manchester City. The Spaniard has now discussed that period of his career and insists he has no regrets.

We are fast approaching the one-year anniversary of Pedro Porro‘s transfer to Tottenham, and what a year it has been for the 24-year-old.

After a long pursuit in the January transfer window last year, Spurs finally landed their man from Sporting Lisbon, on an initial loan deal with a purchase obligation. However, Porro’s first few months at the club were not easy, with his displays drawing criticism at times.

This season, though, is a completely different story. Under Ange Postecoglou, Porro has flourished in the inverted full-back role, and now has one goal and a huge eight assists this season in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Porro reflects on his time at Man City

Long before he signed for Spurs, however, Porro was a Manchester City player, though he never actually made an appearance for the club. Speaking to AS, the defender has been looking back at that part of his career.

He said: “They signed me from Girona and that love for trusting me at that moment, even if I didn’t fit into their plans later, does make it a little special for me. Our paths separated, I wish them the best.”

Porro is asked if regrets joining City, and responds: “No. At that moment what happened, happened, and as a result of that I’m the player I am today. If they saw that I was not ready for the Premier League at that time, I respect their decision.”

City’s loss is very much our gain, and we now have one of the best right-backs in the league. He’s right, too, that experience at City will no doubt have helped to shape him into the player he is today, and we have to be thankful for that.
