‘I’m very annoying’ – Spurs player admits he tries to wind opponents up on the pitch

Emerson Royal claims to be one of the worst players in the Premier League for winding opponents up, with his teammate Richarlison backing up the statement (Desimpedidos).

While Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie have undoubtedly been the two first-choice full-backs since Ange Postecoglou arrived in North London, Emerson Royal has proved himself a more-than-able deputy on both sides.

The Brazilian would naturally prefer to be playing every week, but Emerson has still racked up 20 appearances so far this season across all competitions (TransferMarkt).

Emerson Royal says he is a ‘cheeky’ player

However, it appears the left-wingers of the Premier League may not want him to get any more minutes under his belt, as even the man himself admits he is a pain to play against.

Richarlison even revealed that he cursed at the Spurs right-back in Portuguese when they came up against each other during his Everton days, but Emerson seems to relish that side of the game.

He said: “There are a lot of cheeky guys [in the Premier League]. I myself am the worst on the field for that. I swear if I played against myself, Royal against Royal, I would kill myself, beat myself up. I’m very annoying.”

Richarlison recalled: “He’s cheeky. I played against him. Everton against Tottenham. He’s too cheeky. I cursed him, right, cursed him in Portuguese.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

This isn’t something I associated with Emerson Royal at all. The idea of getting under your opponent’s skin is such an interesting side of the game. On the one hand, I want the Spurs lads to just focus on their own game. But on the other hand, sometimes it can really work in your favour to distract your rivals.
