Jamie O’Hara claims new Spurs signing would ‘walk into Chelsea’s team’

Jamie O’Hara believes that Timo Werner would be a guaranteed starter for Mauricio Pochettino’s side if he was at Chelsea right now.

Werner went to Chelsea with a huge reputation, with the Blues paying £47.5m to take him to Stamford Bridge in 2020.

While the German international certainly had some bright moments during his time at the West London club, even being part of the Champions League winning side in 2021, he did not quite live up to expectations and was sold back to RB Leipzig 18 months ago.

The forward will now get a second crack at the Premier League, having arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a six-month loan deal, with the Lilywhites having the option to sign him permanently for £14.6m (Fabrizio Romano).

Would Timo Werner start for Chelsea at the moment?

O’Hara is confident that Ange Postecoglou will get the best out of the 27-year-old and argued that he would be an automatic starter for Chelsea right now.

The former Tottenham midfielder told talkSPORT: “Timo Werner has put pen to paper on a six-month loan deal at Spurs. I think it’s a great move. I think Ange will get the best out of him. He would walk into Chelsea’s team right now, that’s for sure.”

This deal is a win-win for Spurs as even if Werner fails to impress, he will be an extra body in attack for Postecoglou for the next six months, with the German’s pace being a useful weapon off the bench against tired legs. If the 27-year-old does prove to be a success, Tottenham could potentially have a huge bargain on their hands.
