Journalist hints Spurs man is on Liverpool summer list, but not near the top

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now confirmed that while Ange Postecoglou is on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp, the Tottenham man is by no means the Reds’ top target.

The Liverpool hot seat will soon be vacant as Klopp is set to leave at the end of the season and some outlets have suggested over recent weeks that the Merseyside club could target Postecoglou as a replacement (The Athletic).

Various publications have since played down the speculation, with Football.London insisting that Tottenham are relaxed about the situation while Fabrizio Romano also told CaughtOffside a couple of days ago that the Australian is quite happy where he is.

However, last week, Pete O’Rourke revealed in his column in Football Insider that there are some concerns at Hotspur Way about the Reds’ interest in their head coach.

The journalist added that the Lilywhites are intent on keeping hold of the 58-year-old and are expected to back him in the summer window by giving him the resources he needs to challenge the top sides.

Postecoglou is not at the top of Liverpool’s list

Jacobs has contradicted O’Rourke’s statement, insisting that there are not many concerns at Tottenham over the Reds poaching Postecoglou.

He told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham are unconcerned with Liverpool’s rumoured links to Postecoglou. I think that’s normal because Postecoglou has only just joined, and he likes life and the project at Spurs and has no real reason to move again.

“But I also don’t think that Postecoglou is by any means top of Liverpool’s list of priorities. I think it’s fair to say that, at the moment anyway, Alonso and De Zerbi would be above him. My understanding is that Liverpool have got multiple candidates on the shortlist.”

Liverpool would know just how difficult Daniel Levy will make it for them if they do plan on poaching Postecoglou. I do not think they would even dare to try. I also do not see the Australian bailing on the Spurs project just a year after taking over, given the groundwork that he has now done.
