Journalist says there is no way back for Spurs ‘transfer flop’ under Postecoglou

Dean Jones has said that Tanguy Ndombele’s time at Tottenham Hotspur will come to an end soon and that the midfielder has no way back at the North London club.

Some Spurs fans were hoping last summer after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou that Ndombele’s career at Tottenham might be handed a lifeline, with the midfielder capable of playing with the sort of flair and bravery that the Australian expects from his players.

However, the 58-year-old decided after taking a look at the Frenchman in pre-season that he is not a good fit for his team, with the midfielder being loaned out to Galatasaray – the third time he has gone on loan since signing for the Lilywhites in 2019.

Tanguy Ndombele’s Spurs career has long been over

Ndombele’s loan spell at Istanbul has been the most disappointing of the three he has had so far, with the 27-year-old struggling to get game time and looking well off the pace in the few opportunities that he has been handed.

When asked if the former Lyon man has any chance of remaining at Spurs beyond the summer, Jones has now told GiveMeSport: “I don’t see a way back for Ndombele in this Tottenham setup. He is going to go down as a transfer flop. I think that he had an opportunity when Postecoglou first came into the club, and he didn’t impress.

“The writing has been on the wall for him for a long time now. This could have gone very differently because when they signed them, they were signing a really good player. But whatever it is, and it does feel like a lot of it is attitude and application, is not good enough.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The idea that some Spurs fans had last summer that Ange could hand Ndombele a lifeline was clearly wishful thinking as energy, intensity and work rate are non-negotiables for the Aussie coach, which Ndombele has been found lacking time and again.
