Journalist says Tottenham will find it difficult to sign 23-year-old in January

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Morgan Gibbs-White would be a perfect fit for Tottenham Hotspur but he revealed that Nottingham Forest have no interest in sanctioning the midfielder’s sale this month.

Having raided Forest for Brennan Johnson last summer, it has now emerged that Spurs are also eyeing another one of the club’s young starlets in the form of Gibbs-White.

The youngster has improved steadily over the last 18 months and is now seemingly having a breakthrough season at the City Ground.

The 23-year-old delivered what was arguably one of his best displays for Forest in their 2-1 win over Man Utd last week, netting an 82nd winner for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

The Daily Mail revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham’s scouts had made the trip to the Midlands to watch the midfielder in that clash as the North London club contemplate a potential January move for the player.

Spurs might have to wait for Morgan Gibbs-White

Jones has now said that he understands why Ange Postecoglou’s men would be keen on Gibbs-White, insisting that he would fit in seamlessly into the Spurs midfield.

However, the journalist asserted that Forest see the youngster as a big part of their future and will not consider letting him leave mid-season.

Jones told GiveMeSport about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in the player: “If they could get Gibbs-White then I think it’d be a really nice move, because then you can see the kind of personality that you’re building within the team as well as what you’re getting technically out of these players.

“Postecoglou is going to be very big on making sure that he identifies players that are going to improve the morale within the camp and the levels to which the squad can still be lifted. I think Gibbs-White would fit in with that.

“I can’t imagine for a second that Nottingham Forest are going to let a player like that go in the January transfer window with the way things are going. He’s a big part of what they do and he seems to love it. So, I think that’d be a tough one to pull off.”

Forest could well demand close to £50m for Gibbs-White, just as they did for Johnson last summer. For that kind of price, one would assume that Tottenham would rather go after Conor Gallagher, who appears to be Postecoglou’s top midfield target.
