Journalist thinks Spurs will keep monitoring £25m Premier League attacker

Alasdair Gold has backed Tottenham Hotspur to continue monitoring the progress of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott ahead of a potential future move.

Scott won many admirers with his brilliant showing in the Championship for Bristol City last season and it was reported by several sources last summer that Tottenham were one of a whole host of Premier League clubs eyeing a move for the youngster (Ben Jacobs – Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel).

In the end, it was Bournemouth who won the race for the 20-year-old’s signature, with the Cherries paying £25m to bring him to the Vitality Stadium.

Although Scott is yet to establish himself as a regular in Andoni Iraola’s starting eleven, he has shown glimpses of his quality in some substitute appearances recently.

The youngster, who admitted that he grew up supporting Spurs (Filthy Fellas podcast), scored his first Premier League goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in the Cherries’ 3-1 loss to the Lilywhites.

Should Tottenham move for Alex Scott in the future?

Gold remarked that he was quite disappointed that the North London club did not sign Scott last summer but backed Ange Postecoglou’s side to continue keeping an eye on the youngster’s development.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about the Bournemouth star: “He’s a talent. I’m gutted that Spurs didn’t go for him and I think he’s a big Spurs fan as well I’m pretty sure.

“He’ll be one I’m sure Spurs will keep an eye on in years ahead, but he’s gone to Bournemouth and he’s getting more regular football than he would’ve done at Spurs.”

As Gold points out, ultimately, Scott will feel he made the right decision by moving to Bournemouth as a stepping stone so that he can get some competitive action under his belt in the Premier League, which he might not have got at Tottenham.
