Micah Richards makes confident prediction about a Spurs return for Harry Kane

Micah Richards has dismissed the idea that Harry Kane will return to the Premier League in the future to try and break Alan Shearer’s record.

Kane’s decision to swap Tottenham for Bayern Munich last summer caught some people by surprise, given that the striker was only 47 goals behind Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals.

One would have expected the England captain to clinch the record in two seasons had he stayed in the Premier League but it remains to be seen if he will now get an opportunity to do that.

Some Spurs fans will perhaps be hoping their record goalscorer returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the future, with Daniel Levy even insisting back in September that there is a buy-back clause added to the deal (Guardian).

Will Harry Kane ever return to the Premier League?

The 30-year-old looks set to break all sorts of records in Germany, having scored 26 goals and provided nine assists in just 25 matches across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt), but Richards is not convinced that the former Tottenham man will return to England.

When Gary Lineker said on the Rest is Football podcast: “I’ve got one that could come back. Harry Kane could come back and beat Shearer’s record.”

Richards immediately replied: “No, he’s not coming back, no chance!” before Shearer then joked: “Yeah, stay away Harry, good lad.”

I expect Kane to play until his late thirties, which is why I am convinced he will return to the Premier League. However, he is unlikely to do that for the next few years and whether a return to Tottenham is on the cards remains to be seen.
