Micky van de Ven reveals emotional reason why he chose 37 shirt at Tottenham

Micky van de Ven has admitted that he wears number 37 as a tribute to a friend who passed away when he was younger.

Footballers choose their shirt numbers for a variety of reasons, with some picking numbers based on the history of certain shirts at clubs while others opt for numbers which they view as being lucky for them.

Van de Ven chose the number 37 in memory of a friend

However, for Van de Ven, it is much more personal, with the centre-back revealing that 37 was the favourite number of a close friend who passed away when he was younger.

When asked about his shirt number, the 22-year-old told Premier League Uncut: “It is because of a friend of mine. He passed away when I was younger and it was always his favourite number. I chose this number when I signed for Tottenham. To be honest, it’s for him.”

In the video, Van de Ven also spoke about how he has settled into life at Tottenham, admitting that he gets along with almost every member of the Premier League dressing room.
