Paul Merson makes a shock prediction about Harry Kane for next season

Paul Merson has made a bold prediction regarding Harry Kane for the 2023/24 campaign, with the pundit naming the Tottenham Hotspur star as his pick for the Premier League Golden Boot award next season.

Of course, Harry Kane is no stranger to goals. The Spurs striker was in prolific form last season, bagging 30 goals in the league (Transfermarkt).

Ordinarily, that kind of number would be more than enough to secure the Golden Boot award for any player. The only problem is, Erling Haaland arrived in the Premier League last year, and managed to outshine Kane with a whopping 36 league goals, and a further 16 in other competitions for Manchester City (Transfermarkt).

There is no reason to suggest Kane can’t perform at a similar level next season. However, where the 30-year-old scores his goals in the forthcoming campaign is very much up for debate.

Bayern Munich have been circling the England captain all summer and the German side are reportedly confident they can complete the signing of the Spurs star by early next month (Football Insider).

Harry Kane will win the Golden Boot next season

Despite the speculation linking the marksman with a move away from Spurs and indeed the Premier League, Paul Merson has backed Kane to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League next season.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson said: “I’m going to go with Harry Kane for the Premier League Golden Boot next season. Erling Haaland stopped scoring goals towards the end of last season, didn’t he? I’m not sure if teams have snuffed him out.

“Harry Kane’s record has been incredible. He got to 30 goals last season without scoring four goals a game.

“What he’s done is phenomenal in my opinion and if he does go to Manchester United, I don’t see how he doesn’t win the Golden Boot.

“The big advantage that the likes of Haaland, Kane, and Mohamed Salah have is that they know they’re going to be playing every game.

“You’ve got to play almost every game in the Premier League to win the Golden Boot, and Harry Kane will probably have that opportunity. I’m backing him to outscore his rivals in the Premier League next season.”

If Kane stays with Spurs, there is a very good chance he can win the Golden Boot. Likewise, if he does happen to join another Premier League side, he will be in with a shout.

That is very unlikely, though, as Manchester United appear to have the Hojlund deal wrapped up and will no longer need Kane.
