Postecoglou confirms one player is ‘unlikely’ to play for Tottenham again

Ange Postecoglou has said that Ivan Perisic has likely already played his final game for Tottenham Hotspur.

Perisic had made an impressive start to the season, having delivered some exciting cameos off the bench but the winger was sidelined with an ACL injury back in August.

Various outlets over the last couple of months have suggested that the experienced wide-man could return to his boyhood club, Hadjuk Split (24 Sata). Hadjuk manager Mislav Karoglan admitted two weeks ago that he would love to add the Spurs man to his squad (Dalmatinski Portal).

The club’s sporting director Mindaugas Nikolicius revealed a couple of days ago that they are in talks with Tottenham regarding the winger’s rehabilitation, pointing out that Croatian sides can sign players until the middle of February (SportSport).

Postecoglou provides an update on Ivan Perisic

Postecoglou has now said that losing Perisic so early in the season was a massive blow to the side as he expected the 34-year-old to be a key player for the club.

The Australian remarked that the former Inter Milan man is working hard on his recovery but admitted that we might have seen the last of him in a Spurs shirt.

When asked about Perisic, Postecoglou told Football.London: “He’s working hard to be fair to Ivan. He’s obviously got some national team commitments he wants to get back to as soon as possible.

“Again, he’s been a significant loss for us. I thought this year he was going to be a really significant contributor because of his experience and we saw that in the first few games because of the way he impacted games, but yeah, he won’t…he’s unlikely to play for us again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perisic could have certainly come in handy for Postecoglou over the last couple of months, given the injuries that Tottenham have had to deal with. It is a shame that we never really saw what the Croatian could do in Ange’s system, barring some glimpses early in the season.
