‘Postecoglou likes him’ – Fabrizio Romano gives update on Conor Gallagher and Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has insisted that Conor Gallagher is not leaving Chelsea to join Tottenham this transfer window, although Ange Postecoglou does like the midfielder.

The speculation linking Gallagher with a move to Spurs has carried on unabated since last summer and over the last few days, some outlets have continued to suggest that the Lilywhites are still ‘strongly considering’ a late offer for the 23-year-old (The Times).

Alasdair Gold also gave a comprehensive update on the situation in his latest YouTube video, explaining that the big question mark is still about whether Tottenham would be willing to pay the kind of fee Chelsea are demanding for the player.

While the journalist refused to rule out the possibility of the England international sealing a late move to Spurs, he made it clear that something would have to change significantly for the deal to go through.

Conor Gallagher to Tottenham will have to wait

Romano has now explained that Tottenham never opened talks with Chelsea in January and, as such, Gallagher will remain with the Blues for the time being.

He posted on X: “No movement around Conor Gallagher so far, not just today but same during the entire January window. Tottenham appreciate him, Postecoglou likes him a lot but THFC never opened talks with Chelsea this winter. Gallagher, staying at CFC with contract due to expire in 2025.”

It is worth noting that even last summer, Tottenham waited until quite late in the window to test Chelsea’s resolve with an offer for Gallagher.

So, the chances of the North London club launching another deadline day offer for the player cannot be ruled out, although it looks unlikely that any offer lower than £40m-£45m would be accepted by the Blues.
