Postecoglou offers update on James Maddison and Cristian Romero at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou continues to deal with an extremely long injury list, and in his latest press conference, he has not been able to share any positive updates on the recovery of James Maddison and Cristian Romero.

Spurs host Burnley tomorrow in the third round of the FA Cup, with many fans hopeful the club can kickstart a successful cup run and potentially bring a trophy to North London for the first time since 2008.

Ange Postecoglou may only have been at the club for half a season, but he has instilled a positive atmosphere around the place already, and expectations are slowly intensifying.

However, it is no secret that Spurs have suffered a slew of serious injuries this season, with many key players still missing right now.

Two huge names on that injury list are James Maddison and Cristian Romero. The pair—Postecoglou’s two vice-captains—are expected to return at some point within the next month.

When will Maddison and Romero return from injury?

Speaking to the press (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked how close we are to seeing both players back on the field, and he did not have particularly good news on that front.

On Maddison’s recovery from an ankle injury, Postecoglou said: “[Maddison] is not training with us yet. As I say I won’t know [a return date] until he’s back in training with us and how he’s getting on.”

As for Romero, who is suffering with a hamstring strain, Postecoglou added: “Cristian is still at the early stages [of his recovery].”

I don’t think anyone expected either of these two to be back for the Burnley game, and to be honest, I wouldn’t expect them to return before the end of January. Maddison might just make it for the Brentford game on the 31st, but even that could be too soon.
