Postecoglou provides exciting update on Micky van de Ven’s return at Spurs

In his latest press conference, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has offered hope that Micky van de Ven could be back in the Spurs squad for the game against Burnley tomorrow, but insisted he will not be rushing the defender.

Ange Postecoglou will get his first taste of an FA Cup tie tomorrow when his Tottenham side host fellow Premier League side Burnley in the third round of the iconic competition.

While this is very much a transitional year for Spurs and their new manager, there is a certain expectancy among the Lilywhites’ fan base when it comes to the FA Cup, and many hope to see a strong line up from Postecoglou tomorrow.

The Spurs boss is limited somewhat by injuries and the departure of the likes of Heung-min Son, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Sarr on international duty.

One player who is close to a return, however, is Micky van de Ven. The Dutchman has been sidelined for the last two months with a hamstring strain, but is thought to be nearing the end of the recovery process.

Micky van de Ven close to return

Speaking to the press (via Football.London), Postecoglou provided a positive update on van de Ven’s progress, and hinted we could see the 22-year-old on the Spurs bench tomorrow.

He said: “Micky has trained this week. I’m not sure about tomorrow’s game but he might be involved in the squad. It’s good to get him back. Obviously, he’s missed a fair bit so we’ll have to be careful with him.”

Even just to see Micky van de Ven as an unused substitute tomorrow would be such a lift to all of us Spurs fans, I’m sure. Still, as much as we’ve missed him sorely, we shouldn’t rush him back into action too soon.
