Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnouhue has revealed that it was Leeds who decided to prematurely end Djed Spence’s spell at the club and send the full-back back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spence is now set to be the third Tottenham loanee whose loan spell has been cut short prematurely after Dane Scarlett and Sergio Reguilon returned to Hotspur Way from Ipswich Town and Manchester United respectively.

Leeds United decided to send Djed Spence back early
While the Lilywhites’ decision to recall Scarlett was far from surprising, given his lack of game time at Portman Road Stadium, not many people would have expected Spence to return
According to Donnouhue, the decision to end the youngster’s loan spell was made by the Elland Road hierarchy rather than Ange Postecoglou’s side.
That is quite surprising when one considers that the Tottenham man has been getting regular game time for Daniel Farke’s men since recovering from his knee injury.
In fact, the defender has been getting some rave reviews for some of his performances for the Championship side over recent weeks (Leeds Live).
Spurs Web Opinion
Many Leeds fans on social media are quite astonished by this decision, given how well Spence had been doing over the last few weeks.
That suggests that something might have potentially gone on behind the scenes between Farke and the right-back, which we will likely hear about sooner rather than later.
