Report: Cristian Romero reached out to broadcaster to defend Postecoglou’s tactics

According to ESPN Star+’s broadcast in Argentina, Cristian Romero reached out to an Argentine commentator to defend Ange Posteocoglou after the Tottenham head coach came in for criticism for his overly attacking approach.

Since the start of the season, Postecoglou has refused to waver from his preferred high-risk approach, with the Australian proving his unrelenting commitment to his philosophy by sticking with it even when his side were down to nine men against Chelsea back in November.

The Australian has received some criticism for his stubbornness, with some accusing him of naivety (talkSPORT), but it is clear from the side’s results this season that the approach is very much working.

It is clear that the Tottenham players have fully brought into the 58-year-old’s methods, and there is now further evidence of that, with news emerging that Romero defended the Spurs boss after he was criticised.

Star+ revealed in the lead-up to Spurs’ clash against Bournemouth that an Argentine commentator was critical of Postecoglou’s tactics following Tottenham’s 4-2 loss against Brighton last week.

Bambino Pons, an iconic commentator in Argentina, admitted that Romero reached out via Instagram and the two exchanged a friendly dialogue.

Romero allegedly insisted that the high-risk approach would pay off for the side over the long term. The Tottenham vice-captain also reportedly remarked that there is a real family atmosphere among the squad and that they can challenge for honours.

We have already seen plenty of evidence that this sort of approach will ultimately help us win more points than we lose.

This is the kind of style we need to have a legitimate chance of challenging the top sides over the long term as getting 80-90 points in the Premier League with a counter-attacking or pragmatic style is no longer possible in today’s game.
